Still life

by Bonnie Pockley

There have been subtle changes going on around here. I’ve started gardening obsessively and as a kind of reflected glory, I’ve begun a fairly critical pruning back – a giving of attention to areas of neglect, a tending to the stale and stagnant in my life that has gone to ruin. In balance with being inspired to start new projects and take on a little bit more business initiative, I’m aware of needing to de-clutter and clear out, to exercise more and renew routine and discipline. And so, we spent the day rearranging the house while the children slept, opening up the shutter latches, vacuuming the hallways. Want, at the moment is giving over to need and symbolically speaking, hard work screams ‘better-off’ for bigger picture change.
