Praying for rain…

by Bonnie Pockley

I don’t think any of us slept last night. The whole town seems to be on alert with the extreme heat and fierce winds. The two together spell DANGER so clearly that it may as well be scrawled across the sky as the dull drone message of an aircraft scribe. Everybody knows that a fire today would wreak havoc, would burn out of control. We’re all geared. We’re all ready. We all have a plan. But no one is sleeping and so at 7am, in that eerie morning, early light of the day, we went out for breakfast to face the imminent threat of this never ending heatwave.
