Favourite things: Zuzii Shoes

What’s not to love about fun, handmade, children’s shoes? In my constant effort to buy from small scale, artisan, ethical retailers, I came across vegan shoe brand Zuzii Shoes. With high tops in winter and a variety of patterned flats for summer, I’ll be keeping a close eye on these for the twins as we move towards spring. Check them out:

Bath and baby

Bath time for us is one of those delicious rituals I still look forward to with the twins. In adherence, however, to all the warning of Slow Death By Rubber Duck’ as well as a firm desire not to leak toxic chemicals into our waterways, soil and oceans, I tend to opt for organic, environmentally sound bath-time cleaning products. While I cycle them over quite often, these are a few of my current favourites:

1. Brauer Naturals Baby Sleeptime Bath 2. Jack and Jill’s Natural Calendula Banana Flavoured Toothpaste 3. National Wildlife Federation Preserve Kid’s Toothbrush (Polar Bear) 4. Milk & Co. Baby Shampoozle and Conditioner 375ml

…anything by Weleda and Gaia Skin Naturals also deserves my accolade and an honourable mention – we use them all the time.

Les jeunes

As a gift for Midsummer’s Eve tomorrow night, I got the twins each a beautiful, summer-y, sun-safe outfit – something that they’ll love to wear but will also keep them covered up against the harsh sun. Inca is all about ‘pretty’ at the moment whereas Pax is much more concerned with practicalities – can I ride my bike in these? This is what we ended up with:

1. Country Road Gold Spot Shirt 2. Fleur Wood All That Glitters Bloomers 3. Country Road Bear Print Tee 4. Fleur Wood Kaleidoscope Pants 5. Country Road Socks 6. Fleur Wood Fishing Kitty Pants

For my birthday my sister gave me some exquisite gifts from THE LAB PERFUMERY. On top of the initial aesthetic love of their botanical scents and paired-back but artful packaging, they’ve been some of the best products I’ve used so far. A collection of handpicked premium all-organic skin, hair and body care, THE LAB PERFUMERY represent beauty with integrity while spoiling the senses. Check it out:

1. Chamomile and Walnut Scrub 2. Pink Clay Exfoliating Facial Mask  3. Argan Rosehip Moisturising Cream 4. Feed Your Volume Shampoo

I LOVE Etsy. By shopping there you’re essentially supporting an artist or giving value to recycled goods. Browsing it is like rummaging through an incredible garage sale or vintage market except it’s always there and you can save your favourite things to revisit, or buy, later. These are some of mine. Check it out:

1. Brown leather vintage children’s shoes 2. 1980’s Mirrored Camel Aviators 3. Buena Vista Social Bag 4. Modern Jake Children’s Slippers 5. Natural Linen Market Bag 6. Brown Crocheted Monkey 7. Kilim Shoes 8. Vintage Toddler Peacoat 9. Girls Blue Vintage Startrite Shoes

Nursery Rhymes

I can be quite old-fashioned sometimes. I have a preference for old books and nursery rhymes – delighting in the beauty of time-laboured illustrations and the care of production now bygone.  I often find myself defaulting back to the books I had when I was child. A particular favourite, and read to us all the time, was Nicola Bayley’s stunning ‘Book of Nursery Rhymes’.

Gypsy Water

There’s something very seductive about a perfume such as this. A heart of orris and incense with accents of amber and pine, Gypsy Water is the unlikely creation of half Indian, half Canadian, Stockholm based Ben GorhamAn outsider in his industry, Ben began as an artist before becoming acquainted with olfactory experts Olivia Giacobetti and Jerome Epinette and building his business under the brand of Byredo. How beguiling.

Byredo products: Byredo Bohemia – fragranced candle, Byredo leather travel cases , Byredo Black Saffron – eau de parfum, Byredo Cassis – fragranced candle, Byredo Gypsy Water – eau de parfum.

Yes, it’s true. Spell And the Gypsy Collective have been enchanting me with their bohemian sense of style for years. There’s simple something about this Byron Bay boutique and it’s beautiful beach backdrop that makes you feel free and fearless. In particular – their kimono collection. Now these, for me, are already a love story.
